Box Score NORTH BAY, Ont. – Lake Superior State finished the Winter
Classic against Nipissing with a 7-1 victory Sunday. The Lakers
continue their Canadian tour against the University of Ottawa at 3
p.m. Monday.
Senior forward Rick Schofield netted an unassisted goal at 19:41
of the first period, giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead.
The freshman class dominated the second period, netting four
goals for the Lakers. Kyle Jean scored twice, while Kellan Lain and
Dan Radke each notched one. After 40 minutes of play, the Lakers
lead 4-0. Lain's goal proved to be the game-winner.
Sophomore forward Ben Power and senior forward Tyson Hobbins
each netted a goal in the third period to round out LSSU's
scoring.
Seven Lakers' notched assists, Andrew Perrault, Will Acton,
Rick Schofield, Dan Radke, and Matt Cowie, each had one assist.
Lain notched two assits while Colin Campbell had three.
Nipissing scored its lone goal at 6:44 of the third period.
LSSU freshman netminder Kevin Kapalka made 22 saves, and
Niels-Erik Ravn totaled 14 saves for the Lakers. Senior
goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson is out of the lineup due to an
injury.
