Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio - Tiffin ended the Lake Superior State men's
basketball team's five-game win streak with an 80-73 victory
Saturday. The Lakers shot 39 percent from the field, also ending
their hot-shooting stretch, which included 50 percent or better
success from the field during five straight outings.
LSSU (13-6 overall, 7-5 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) trailed 39-27 at halftime and fell behind 53-34 with
11:52 remaining in the second half. Despite having several players
in foul trouble, the Lakers battled back and closed the gap to five
points during the final minute.
Khalid Wells and Derek Kinney scored 17 points each to lead
LSSU. Micah Hudson and Andrew Charlesworth added 12 points each.
Kinney also led the Lakers in rebounds with nine.
LSSU was 24-of-62 from the field, including 6-of-26 from
three-point range. The Lakers made 19-of-26 free throws. They
out-rebounded Tiffin, 41-36.
Joe Graessle was 8-of-12 from the field and led Tiffin (6-14
overall, 4-9 GLIAC) with 22 points. Brian Scott was 4-of-8 from
behind the arc and finished with 20 points. The Dragons shot 43
percent from the field (22-of-51), including 11-of-20 from
three-point range. They made 25-of-40 free throws.
LSSU starting point guard Derek Billing and back-up guard Bill
Sams fouled out, and Wells, Charlesworth and Williams finished
with four fouls each. Lake Superior State totaled 28 fouls to
Tiffin's 19.
The Lakers play host to Ferris State at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
