Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State knew it needed a group
effort to handle Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
pre-season player of the year Justin Keenan, and Justin Williams,
Andrew Charlesworth, Derek Kinney, Mike Boylan and Cameron
Metz held their own against the 6-7, 265-pounder Thursday at Bud
Cooper Gymnasium.
A few missed free throws and two late turnovers proved costly
down the stretch, and Ferris State moved into sole possession of
first place in the GLIAC North Division by winning 62-59.
LSSU (13-7 overall, 7-6 GLIAC) dominated the first 10 minutes of
the second half to build a 50-39 lead. The Lakers were
within reach of the upset, but Ferris State (15-5 overall,
11-2 GLIAC) took advantage of Laker turnovers at 4:54 and 2:34 and
closed the gap to one point. The Bulldogs led 56-55 after a Kenny
Brown jumper at 2:23.
Williams and Keenen traded baskets, and Williams scored again
with 1:05 remaining to give LSSU a 59-58 lead. FSU's Matt DeHart
answered with a three-pointer at the 50-second mark to make it
61-59.
Brown made the first of two free throws for the deciding 62-59

Hudson from behind the arc left the win in doubt until the buzzer.

finished with eight points, while Derek Billing had nine points,
six assists and three steals during his best outing of the
