Box Score Houghton, Mich. - Lake Superior State lost game two of its
non-conference home-and-home hockey series against Michigan
Tech, falling 8-4 Saturday at the John MacInnes Arena.
The Lakers (1-1-0) were down 3-0 at the end of the first
period. LSSU scored its first goal at 3:51 of the second period.
Senior forward Ben Power (1-0--1) netted the first LSSU goal from
senior forwards Nick McParland (1-1--2) and Domenic Monardo
(1-4--5) to trim the lead to 3-1.
The Huskies led 4-1 when Monardo netted a power-play goal
at 8:20 of the second period from sophomore forward Buddy Robinson
(0-1--1). MTU's game-winning goal was netted at 14:11 of the second
period by Dennis Rix. Rix's goal was a short-handed goal.
Michigan Tech scored two more goals in the second
period to build a 7-2 command.
LSSU junior defender Zach Sternberg (1-1--2) scored a power-play
goal from junior defenseman Andrew Perrault (0-1--1) and Monardo.
The Lakers' final goal, which was also a power-play
goal, came from junior forward Dan Radke (1-0--1) and
was assisted by freshman defenseman Zach Loesch (0-2--2)
and sophomore forward Chris Ciotti (0-2--2).
MTU added a power-play goal at 11:33 of the third.
The Huskies' line of Milos Goric (2-1--3), Tanner Kero (1-2--3)
and Blake Pietila (1-1-2) was dominating, leading MTU with four
goals for the night.
Junior goaltender Kevin Kapalka (1-1-0) tallied 22 save during
40-minutes of play, and junior Neils-Erik Ravn stopped 10
shots during the third period. Saturday was Ravn's first official
appearance since the 2010-11 season and second of his career.
Kevin Genoe made 22 save for the Huskies.
The Lakers and Huskies were both 3-for-7 on the power-play.
