Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State extended its win
streak to five games with Saturday's 3-1 victory over No. 13
Union at the Taffy Abel Arena.
The last time the Lakers (12-10-0 overall and 7-7-0 in the
Central Collegiate Hockey Association) won five or more games in a
row was during the 2009-10 season. That year they swept Bowling
Green State, Northern Michigan and Robert Morris consecutively.
Union (9-6-4 overall, 3-2-3 Eastern Collegiate Athletic
Conference) broke a scoreless tie by snapping LSSU's run of 31
straight penalty kills with a power-play goal at 8:10 of the second
period. Daniel Ciampini tallied the lone Dutchmen goal with assists
from Kyle Bodie and Greg Coburn.
The Lakers responded with three unanswered goals and three more
successfully killed penalties. Sophomore forward Andrew Dommett
(1-1--2) scored his first collegiate goal at 12:09 of the second
period to tie it, 1-1. Sophomore defenseman Kevin Czuczman (2-5--7)
drew the only assist.
Senior forward Domenic Monardo (8-9--17) notched LSSU's
game-winning goal at the 42-second mark of the third period. Junior
forward Dan Radke (3-6--9) and senior forward Nick McParland
(6-13--19) tallied the assists on the game-winning goal.
Sophomore forward Buddy Robinson (6-5--11) tallied LSSU's
first short-handed goal of the season at 9:21 of the third period
to make it 3-1. Junior defenseman Andrew Perrault (0-6--6)
intercepted a pass in LSSU's zone to set up the
break-away.
The Lakers were 1-for-4 on the power-play and held Union to
1-for-6. Junior goalie Kevin Murdock (7-6-0) made 28 saves for the
Lakers while recording the win. Colin Stevens (4-2-0) totaled 26
saves for Union.
