Box Score SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Lake Superior State
defeated 15th-ranked Union 6-5 in overtime Friday to improve to
3-0-0. LSSU's six goals are the most the Lakers have scored in
a single game since Dec. 10, 2011, when they defeated Northern
Michigan 6-3.
Junior forward Stephen Perfetto
(1-3--4) led the Lakers in points with 1-3--4 and tallied his
lone game at 1:16 in overtime. It was also the first four-point
game by a Laker since Domenic Monardo tallied two goals and two
assists in that same 2011 game against NMU.
Union opened the game with a goal
at the one-minute mark of the first period. The Lakers and Dutchmen
continued back and forth goal scoring throughout 60 minutes of
play, and LSSU came from behind to tie the game three times.
Senior defenseman Zach Sternberg (1-4--5) scored 29 seconds into
the third period to tie it, 4-4, and junior forward Andrew Dommett
(2-1--3) gave the Lakers a 5-4 lead with a goal at the 2:10 mark.
Both were power-play markers.
Union's Shayne Gostisbehere tied it 5-5 at 6:55 of the
third.
Sternberg (1-4--5) added one power-play goal
and two assists for the game, while freshman forward Alex Globke
(1-4--5) added three assists. Junior defenseman Kevin Czuczman
(2-1--3) netted one goal and one assist for LSSU.
Sophomore forward Bryce Schmitt and senior
defenseman Andrew Perrault also scored Laker goals, which were
their first of the season.
Kevin Sullivan notched three assists for the
Dutchmen during the loss. Seven other Dutchmen tallied at least one
point.
Senior goaltender Kevin Murdock (3-0-0 overall)
made 29 saves for the Lakers. Alex Sakellaropoulos (1-1-1 overall)
totaled 17 saves for Union.
LSSU was 2-for-8 on the power-play and held
Union to 1-for-5.
