SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State women's tennis team concluded their weekend at home with a match against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Davenport.  The Lakers (3-8, 2-7 GLIAC) notched back to back conference wins with an 8-1 victory over the Panthers (1-6, 1-6 GLIAC).

Starting off the day in doubles  competition, the tandem of Tara Harvey and Macarena Bielsa defeated Davenport's Steph Ritson and Adeline Nelson 8-4.  In number two doubles, Allison Grandfield and AlexiAnn Drouin downed Bridget Barrett and Sophie Gossett 9-8.  That was all of the doubles action for the day, however, as Davenport was unable to field a third doubles paring; hence LSSU's Laura Valderrama and Jenay Andrews picked up a point by default.

Moving into singles competition, freshman Drouin upended Ritson at the number one slot, 6-3, 6-2.  Tara Harvey kept things rolling for the Lakers, as she defeated Nelson, one of her opponents in doubles by a 6-2, 6-2 score. 

Competing in the number three spot, Bielsa beat Barrett 6-3 and 6-2.  Davenport claimed a point in number four singles, as Davenport's Gossett downed Valderrama 6-3, 7-6.  Grandfield and Andrews each earned a point by default in the final two singles spots.

The Lakers are back in action on Saturday, October 21st for their final conference match of the season against Michigan Tech.  The Huskies (6-5, 4-5 GLIAC) have already faced the Lakers this season, defeating them 7-2 in non-conference action to start the season.  The action starts at 10 a.m. inside the Arbuckle Student Activities Center on the campus of Lake Superior State.
