Women's Tennis Ends GLIAC Road Swing With Loss To Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio - A challenging season-opening three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match road swing for the Lake Superior State University women's tennis team concluded this Sunday (Sept. 17) morning as the Lakers were dealt an 8-1 loss by Tiffin at the TU's PM Gillmor Courts in Tiffin, Ohio. 

Freshman AlexiAnn Drouin earned Lake Superior State's lone point in the conference match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Adel Musina at the number one singles flight.  With the win, Drouin improved her singles record to 4-1 this season and has now come out victorious in her last two outings to date.   

Junior Tara Harvey fell 6-3,6-2 at the two singles spot while senior Macarena Bielsa along with senior Laura (Fernandez) Valderrama and junior Allison Grandfield each suffered 6-1, 6-1 setbacks to their Tiffin counterparts at the three through five singles flights, respectively.  In the sixth singles position, junior Kirsten Malpass dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision. 

Opening the contest in doubles, the Lakers' duo of Tara Harvey and Macarena Bielsa fell 8-3 on the court to Tiffin's Adle Musina and Emily Sim at the top slot.  The two remaining doubles flights were both decided by an idential 8-2 margin with the Dragons prevailing in the second and third doubles flights.  AlexiAnn Drouin and Allison Grandfield teammed up at number two while Laura (Fernandez) Valderrama and Jenay Andrews represented LSSU in the number three position.

Lake Superior State, which is presently 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the GLIAC, is now idle until Saturday, Sept. 30, when the Lakers resume conference action hosting the Northwood Timberwolves in their conference opener at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.  The match is scheduled for an 10 a.m. (EDT) start at the LSSU Tennis Courts.
