Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State junior forward
Colin Campbell made the most of his first shift of 2012-13.
Campbell set up Kellan Lain's goal nine seconds into Friday's
Central Collegiate Hockey Association game against Alaska. Lake
Superior State fed off that early energy and went on to
win 5-1 and beat a CCHA opponent for the first time since
January 25, snapping a four game losing streak.
LSSU (14-16-1 overall, 9-13-1-1 CCHA), which set a season high
for goals scored in a game this season, sits in eighth place
in the CCHA with 29 points. The Nanooks (13-12-4 overall, 11-11-3-1
CCHA) remain in sixth place with 37 points.
The Lakers came on strong in the first period, scoring two goals
in less than two minutes. Lain (7-7--14) scored on
assists from forwards Campbell (0-1--1) and Nick McParland
(6-14--20).
Junior defenseman Zach Sternberg (4-10--14) tallied LSSU's
game-winning goal at 1:07 of the first period from Buddy Robinson
(8-7--15) and Ben Power (4-6--10). UAF came within one goal of the
Lakers with a short-handed marker at 3:04 of the first.
LSSU responded with three unanswered goals.
Halfway through the second period, Domenic Monardo (15-11--26)
scored his first of two goals from linemates Chris Ciotti
(10-7--17) and Dan Radke (3-11--14). At 11:11 of the third,
Robinson tallied his second point of the night with a goal from
Matt Bruneteau (1-2--3) and Andrew Perrault (1-10--11).
Monardo's final goal of the game came at 11:38 of the third from
Sternberg and Power.
LSSU killed off all seven penalties and were held to
0-for-6 on the power play.
Junior netminder Kevin Murdock (9-10-0) totaled 46 saves for the
Lakers. John Keeney suffered the loss for Alaska, stopping 22 shots
while Steve Thompson tallied four saves in the relief.
